Does Blogging help Healthy Living?

As a somewhat recently retired (my choice, thankfully) person, it’s also been my choice to get serious about my blogs. There are a couple of good reasons for this.

First, it keeps my mind active and alert as I learn new skills, techniques and information. And also, it lends some purpose to my existence, outside my family, as I attempt to bring good things to other folks, through my own experience.

Is this an improvement for healthy living over sitting in the proverbial rockin’ chair? I surely think so. Is it healthy for us to have puposeful activities, staying involved and learning? Of course it is..

now I’ve got to get going on a couple of early morning writing projects..

Money Matters and Healthy Living

2008 December 10
by admin

Remember this old expression: “Money may not be everything, but it’s way ahead of whatever is in second place”.

Well, I don’t really subscribe to that idea, but obviously money does matter.  By having made a conscious effort to stay out of debt once the kids’ school and college bills were paid has certainly helped my mental health. Keeping employed when they were young sometimes was a challenge, but in the late 80’s when my real estate business was once again in the hopper, I didn’t mind getting some dirty-hands work to make some money and keep the bucks flowing, it was honest and outside and paid the bills, so who cares?

Today, many folks are again having some tough times,  to greater or lesser degrees, but whether it’s some new additional employment, or cutting back on the extras and maybe adding some walking or biking to work, those changes could in part be healthy ones too.  This Christmas season, how about giving something, whether money or your time, to your local veteran’s center, homeless shelter, Salvation Army, food kitchen or whatever charity you select.  Meantime, maybe cutting back on those more lavish gifts that might have appeared during recent holiday seasons? That is healthy living indeed!

1. Eat the right foods – even if you have to go to McDonald’s, you can find a salad or a plain sandwich and leave the fat on the counter.
2. Get some exercise – use the stairs, park at the far end of the line, walk the dog, dig up the flower beds, whatever it takes!
3. Stop smoking (or better, never start) it will ruin your life expectancey.
4. Drink in moderation.
5. Lose some weight – 60% of US citizens need to do so!
6. Be as happy as you can, bring joy to others – life is short, so live each day like it may be your last, because one day you will be right!

Blood Pressure and Healthy Life

2008 December 4

A well-known high blood pressure cause is stress. And stress most probably is increasing with the current financial events in the world. A lot of focus is spent on the other high blood pressure causes and many people often overlook the mental and emotional aspects to it.  The body is all tied together; mental agitation and anxiety have a direct effect on your heart and circulation.
