If you’re determined to get healthy for life, there are some important things you need to know before you begin. Just follow these five tips for getting started toward getting healthy for life and having having fun with your achievement.

1. An important factor when you start to practice getting healthy for life is making sure that you exercise. The reason why this is important is because exercise stimulates all the body’s systems. If you don’t exercise then you run the risk of being overweight, with high blood pressure and other ailments.

2. Another important consideration for being healthy for life is what you eat. It’s critical that you learn the essentials of healthy nutrition from a reputable source such as your doctor, nurse or a professional nutritionist. Eating the wrong foods, high in fats, sugars and low in vitamins and antioxidants will eliminate any benefits that may come from your exerise activities. Have good nutritions on top of your exercise is the right way to do it.

3. You don’t have to spend a lot of money on special diets or exercise equipment to become healthy for live (a common misconception that people might have about this activity). All you need to do is settle on a workout plan and make sure that you eat correctly.

4. Instead of complicating healthy for life exercise efforts by joining a high priced gym and ordering special pre-packaged diet meals, try it this way: Start the day with some healthy food (no sweet rolls!) and then take a walk, a jog or a bike ride. You might even prefer a quick

workout in your living room or yard, using a set of inexpensive weights and an exercise ball. In fact, if you try this even for a week or two, then you will very likely find that you feel better already.

5. Have you considered joining with a neighbour in your nutrition and exercise planning for getting healthy for life? It’s not as difficult as you might think. What you need to do is ask and you might find a friend who will be supportive of your efforts!

So if you really want to start getting healthy for life, follow these tips – it won’t be so hard to do and you might surprise your family with the new you! And always be sure check with your medical doctor before starting such a program, to be sure that it is safe for you to follow your exercise and nutrition plan.

Exercise and the Healthy Life

An 1800 depiction of jumping rope

So why don’t people exercise?  Part of it is attached to our mentality about exercising.  “Exercising” brings up images of sweaty, grunting people lifting weights in a smelly gym, and it sounds like a lot of work.  However, exercising doesn’t mean you’re going to have to pump iron for a few hours every day.  In fact, lots of things are considered exercising, from playing a pick-up game of basketball to gardening to just taking a walk around the block.

Most studies have found that a half hour of exercise every day is enough to keep you healthy, and that half hour doesn’t even have to be all at once.  You can skip rope for ten minutes in the morning, take a walk for ten minutes after lunch, and take a walk around the block for ten minutes when you get home and night and take care of all of your exercise for the day.

The American Healthy Life Problem!

(Week 16) Day 108/366 - Pride - I'm proud of m...

Americans, on the whole, are fatter than just about any other group of people in the world.  They also have some of the highest rates of Type-II Diabetes and heart problems in the world.  Why are we so fat?  Weight gain is usually a combination of two things: an unhealthy diet and a lack of exercise.  Most people, when they decide to try and lose weight, only tackle part of the problem.  They try dieting or taking pills or living off of lemon juice and cayenne pepper for awhile, but usually it doesn’t work.  Though a healthy diet is important to losing weight, it’s still only part of the equation.  If you cut down your calories but still sit on a couch or in an office every day, you’re not going to lose much weight.  Interestingly enough, though many people are happy to try dieting, there aren’t many who only work at the other side of the equation: exercising.
